Some of the Most Amazing Scientific Discoveries in 2013

Another year ends and scientists rejoice at the discoveries professional researchers have discovered all over the world. Here is a list of the most astounding science discoveries and milestones in 2013.

1. Voyager 1 Reaches Interstellar Space
The NASA Voyager 1 spacecraft is the first spacecraft to leave the solar system, which is beyond Pluto. Scientists discovered that it had gone from the system by measuring the density of molecules around the spacecraft as it travelled. It is currently about 11.66 billion miles away from the sun and around 10 billion miles away from the Earth.

2. Neutrinos Beyond the Earth
Cosmic rays from outside the solar system have penetrated Earth once according to the IceCube Neutrino Obsevatory, which is an instrument buried in a cubic kilometre of ice beneath the south pole. The device detected cosmic rays that might have originated from supernovas, gamma ray bursts and black holes beyond the solar system to hit Earth. This discovery could help make understanding powerful events in the universe more convenient.

3. Exoplanet Twins
Planet Kepler-78b aroused the public as scientists said that it has an environment similar to earth, but only with 80% greater mass. Why it is not a candidate for terrestrial life is because it travels the sun once every 8.5 hours and has surface temperatures more than 2,000 degrees Celsius.
